Nyrstar Transformation Project

The Nyrstar processing facility is located in Port Pirie, South Australia, approximately 230 kms north of Adelaide.

The international group invested over $660M recently to complete a major redevelopment of their Smelting process providing environmental benefits to the community, efficiency, process improvements and a solid future for the facility. The investment in Port Pirie is unique and allows Nyrstar to extract increased value from high margin metal bearing feed materials

As part of this transformation ICE was selected to install all the Electrical and Instrumentation equipment associated with the state of the art Ausmelt Top Submerged Lance (TSL) Furnace, the building and associated infrastructure.

ICE mobilised to site in early March and completed the work by October 2017, utilising over 80 electricians working over 2 shifts to complete our scope of work.

The work completed by ICE occurred with no LTI’s which was a testament to the team who worked in a relatively tight space, on a multi-level building consisting of 8 stories with no lift and wearing full PPE inclusive of breathing mask at all times.

The redevelopment will have a significant positive long-term effect on Nyrstar’s operations and deliver a substantial earnings uplift.

ICE contract value – $11,000,000+
