Santos Port Bonython 2.12 MW Solar Array
Santos strategy on renewable energy has recently realised a significant milestone with the installation, commissioning and integration of a 2.12MW Solar Array at their Port Bonython Liquids Terminal in South Australia. Santos has for many years utilised solar panels for the generation of power on their remote equipment such as metering instruments and data collection on the gas lease skids. This low energy consumption equipment requires only a few panels to generate the power required
The Port Bonython Renewable project was the largest undertaking of its kind for Santos and working with AGL and their technology partner 5B, ICE were responsible for the turnkey installation over a 12 week period.
ICE project managed the site construction activities from selection of the Civil and Mechanical sub-contractors to the install of the Electrical requirements.
- 5B “Mega Mavericks” quick deploy solar array was installed
- 88 ground anchors were drilled and installed to secure the panel arrays
- Over 25km DC cable, 1.3km of HV 240mm2 XLPE cable all on cable ladder.
The design and installation team consisted of;
- Santos
- AGL
- 5B Solar
- Whyalla Excavations
- IPS
- Veolia
- McLeod Drilling
- CBCH
AGL estimate the system will provide Santos with over 6% of its yearly site electricity needs.
