BHP SCM21

Olympic Dam

Smelter Campaign Maintenance 2021 Project (SCM21) is the second project in a planned series of major shutdowns for the Olympic Dam (OD) surface operations that aim to improve the integrity of critical plant and infrastructure to deliver safe and reliable production performance, productivity improvements in bottleneck areas and sustainable cost reductions in non-bottleneck areas.

ICE Engineering & Construction Pty Ltd provided the Electrical & Instrumentation scope for this project.

SCM21 will build upon the scope recently completed in SCM17 and is focused on delivering the next phase of the long-term strategy of decreasing the required OD smelter outage days by at least 20% (over a 20-year period post SCM17) while maintaining an acceptable risk profile throughout the subsequent campaign.
