Construction Project

Hughenden Camp

The Copperstring Project is a $14 billion electricity transmission development linking the North West Minerals Province to the National Electricity Market via Townsville. Spanning over 1,000 km, the project will unlock up to 6 GW of renewable energy capacity, reduce regional power costs by up to 40%, and enable significant mining and industrial growth. It forms a critical part of Queensland’s Super Grid vision, targeting 80% renewable energy by 2035. The network includes 500 kV, 330 kV, and 220 kV transmission lines, multiple substations, and supporting infrastructure such as workforce accommodation hubs. The Hughenden Hub is the Eastern Link’s central staging point, allowing rapid deployment of crews and resources westward.

The Hughenden Camp Construction Project delivered the electrical and site services scope for a large-scale workforce accommodation facility, enabling the safe and efficient housing of hundreds of personnel tasked with building Copperstring’s high-voltage infrastructure.

Scope of Works Included:

  • Design and construction of a multi-building camp accommodating over 400 personnel, complete with dining, administration, laundry, and recreation facilities.
  • Full electrical distribution network including main switchboards, sub-distribution, underground reticulation, and lighting systems.
  • Emergency and exit lighting, communications cabling, and security systems installation.
  • Integration with temporary utilities and grid connection to support early works on the Eastern Link.
  • Testing, commissioning, and handover to operational teams.

Completion of this project provided the operational foundation for the Copperstring Eastern Link build, directly supporting one of Queensland’s most significant renewable energy and transmission initiatives.
